“I have mixed feelings about this book. Hillert's books are very good for developing reading fluency in beginning readers. Unfortunately, they're also included in schools' Accelerated Reader testing program, and they're terrible for that. I remember my son reading them when he was in kindergarten, and doing very poorly on the AR tests because the questions were so specific about stories that had very little content in them. This particular title was one of our favorites, because it really is a cute story, but he failed the test. He failed so many tests on Hillert books that his teachers were beginning to think he couldn't read!”
