“Beautifully done, and it haunts me enough to lure me back every few years for another trip down the Congo to the last circle of Hell. Kurtz is such a profound symbol for the evil that lurks within each of us, as well as within the civilization we’ve constructed for ourselves, and Marlow’s journey so useful as an allegory (or even prophecy) for the coming century's horrors that the novella acts as a tributary flowing through much great modern literature and even film. I think it’s one of those books that’s important to read, and whether or not one “likes” it is beside the point. It’s not asking to be liked, just understood. ”
