Alas, I could not enjoy this short novella. I got the feeling that I would have appreciated it more if I had read it in the context of a classroom. As it was, I could not relate to the characters or appreciate the plot. I found my mind wandering often and would completely lose the thread of the narrative.

This is a classic for all time. As an old man, Marlow recalls his journey into the depths of the Congo to relieve a rouge companyman of his post. ALong the way, he witnesses the lows and hollowness of colonialism and greed.

The jungle in this book, is a living, breathing embodiment of the darkness in man's soul. It will swallow you whole without blinking. Conrad's prose is challenging, memorable, and way ahead of it's time. If you have a hankering for classic literature and haven't yet read this masterpiece, do so asap. You won't be sorry.

I actually really enjoyed this book, while it's a little on the depressing side, I enjoyed the symbolisim and the descriptiveness. It is not a work I would pick up litghtly, it's pretty hefty and gives you something to think about. Contrary to the rest of my class as we read this book, I enjoyed it (despite it's super creepy cover...)
