Sometimes it's tedious - how many different ways can you describe darkness? - but I thought it was suspenseful and ominous. You can just imagine the stifling...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Joseph Conrad has a very complicated and laboured style of writing. I found the book to be too rushed for my taste and it was difficult to develop any sort of emotional...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“In this novel Conrad illistrates the follies of imperialism, as he takes readers on a journey to the heart of Africa. But does the heart of all darkness lie within this jungle? Or does it lie elsewhere, perhaps in a place more seemingly 'civilized'?”

But it is a book worthy of memorizing; if I were in Fahrenheit 451 universe, I might have picked this one. Short but important”

His journey also involves him trying to figure out whether the Africans need to be civilized, or whether civilization can exist in the jungle.
The story can be difficult to follow at times due to Conrad's writing style, but it is definitely a work that must be read by any serious literature student or lover.”
“This is the only book I ever remember hating!”
