Characters edit
- James Sirius Potter: Eldest son of famed Auror, Harry James Potter, James Sirius Potter is starting his first year of Hogwarts at the beginning of the book.
- Harry James Potter: A character developed by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter is the Head of the Auror Office at the Ministry of Magic, and is also James' father.
- Ralph Deedle: Ralph is a Muggle-born wizard who James befriends on the Hogwarts Express.
- Zane Walker: Zane is an American whose parents have temporarily moved to England as part of work on a film. Zane is sorted into Ravenclaw, and becomes a class clown.
- Teddy Remus Lupin: Ted Lupin is the orphaned son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks-Lupin. Raised by his Godfather, Harry Potter, Ted is a Gryffindor Seventh Year, and a good friend of his god-cousins.
- Tabitha Corsica: Tabitha is the Slytherin House Quidditch Team captain. She is also captain of Slytherin's debate team.
- Benjamin Amadeus Franklyn: Yes, this is THE Benjamin Franklin. The Chancellor of the Alma Aleron Magical Academy in Philadelphia, Franklyn serves as Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor in James' first year, as a representative of Alma Aleron.
- Theodore Jackson: Professor of Technomancy at Alma Aleron, Jackson accompanied Franklyn and Mdme. Delacroix from Alma Aleron to Hogwarts. He teaches Technomancy at Hogwarts for the term.
- Madame Delacroix: Professor of Divination at Alma Aleron, Mdme. Delacroix takes over for a year at Hogwarts, while visiting with Jackson and Franklyn.
- Merlinus Ambrosius: aka Merlin
- Minerva McGonagall: A character developed by JK Rowling, Ms. McGonagall is the Headmistress of Hogwarts School.
