Didn’t Like It“A very big disappointment after Zuikers page turner "Level 26". |
“I liked this type of books. I did not know that it is a trilogy and this is the second book. It is easy writing because it is short chapters and it chapter correspond to a different character.”

Main character is again Steve Dark as in Level 26. But this time, Dark is not part of the Special Circs team. Although he is investigating a murder series.
In my opinion, there are a few elements which are not logical. On the one side, Dark, as a normal citizen, gets access to the crime scenes, is faster than the special task force called Special Circs. In addition, Dark, as hero in the past and a former friend of the current Special Circs team, gets a suspect for the murders. WHY? What reason should Dark have to commit such brutal crimes? There is no logic!
I hope the third book of Zuiker will be better again! ”
“I have almost finished reading this book. Book 2 of the Level 26 series. Am I just confused or did anybody else notice the discrepancy between the slaughter of Steve Dark's foster family on this book and the first one? In the first book, the foster family of Steve Dark involved a grown-up brother and a grown-up sister with an infant daughter and in the 2nd book the foster family involved parents and 9 year old twin brothers...anyone, please enlighten me on this?”

Overall, I think the idea for the serial killers was interesting; however, I personally wouldn't have labeled these Level 26'ers. It's hard to beat Squeegel...”

It's very accessible and sensational, flows well, so I could see how it became popular. The story is lacking, definitely. Boom, boom, boom. Everything falls into place, with links that just happen. It could never actually happen this way. A woman with unlimited connections, killers who can achieve anything, super human possibilities and research. But I suppose that's why it's fiction. All of the law enforcement characters spend more than 80% of their time wondering why they do what they do. I got it, it's hard to spend time looking for killers, and seeing what they do. Very thin, but entertaining.”

The short video clips really add to the experience of reading the book. The story hits your emotional hot buttons and is satisfyingly redemptive.”

I don't mind having to suspend belief when reading or watching fiction, but there were just a few things in this book that made zero sense, even in the universe the authors were portraying. I really don't understand why Dark's magic credentials given to him by Graysmith (and apparently Homeland Security) worked by simply flashing a screenshot on this cell phone to any and all authorities, yet he couldn't tell Special Circs anything, as if it was a crime what he was doing?
The criss-crossing around the country, never sleeping or resting, the rent-a-cop building security guards man-handling bombs and just tossing them in a corner of the basement. A lot of this story played out like a bad season of 24.
I am happy that they didn't bring Sqweegel back to life, though. The first book ending on the cheap tactic as if it was a possibility was bad enough. They got out of that nicely.
