Some of the most chilling little horror stories I've read in a long time, and also some of the most heartfelt. If you like smart horror, this is definitely for you.

Three, maybe four out of the 15 short stories in this book were actually (to me) worth having read. I wasn't impressed.

This was a great book to read on the journey to and from work. Just enought time to read 1 story each way.
A great collection of wierd and wonderful storys that range from local a ghost in the cinema to scarry ginat grasshoppers seeking revenge. Some tales were strangly beautiful amd some were downright scare u pant offs!!!

The best stories in this collection used horror and fantasy as allegory. I was especially moved by the title story and was impressed at how hill was able to manipulate my expectations in "The Cape". "My Father's Mask" is probably the creepiest story. Some of the stories have no fantasy elements at all. the best of these is "Bobby Conroy Comes Back From the Dead". It was a great bittersweet story that took place on the set of george romero's "Dawn of the Dead." overall it is a superior collection.

The first story in this collection is the best in my opinion. The second is a close second, ha ha, but is so dark that one almost cannot get through it. Overall the collection is highly enjoyable and a good mix of horror, sci fi, drama, and tragedy.

Joe Hill pops on the scene as one of the best new modern day dark fiction writers out there. A must have.

Joe Hill is too good for short fiction. That's to say I so thoroughly enjoyed nearly every story in this collection to the point that I was close to annoyance everytime one of the stories ended.

The longest and by far my favorite in this collection is Voluntary Commital. It's a home run story... it has a beginning, it has an ending, and everything between reminds you of why you love reading in the first place.

    Highly recommended.

After having read Heart-Shaped Box, I was rather disappointed by this book. It is a collection of short stories, some of which are decent and some of which I found to be not so good. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of the short story, which put this book at a disadvantage from the start.
I tried in vain to finish all of the stories, but couldn't make it through the very last one. I wanted to find a way to give this book a three star rating, but couldn't help but settle on two.
