“Broken Kingdoms flows very smoothly from the previous book, Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, in style and overall feel. Even though the protagonist changes, she has a similar personality to Yeine in the first book.
Nemesin does a good job of painting a fantasy world with likable, detailed protagonists and plots that keep enough action to stay interesting, but focus more on thought & emotion of the characters. Her world is populated with gods & godlings mixing amongst mortals, and she succeeds in creating these personalities that are not quite human in their actions or motivations, leaving you wondering what a character will do next, and finding yourself both liking and being irritated by a character at the same time. ”
