My husband and I both read this book. It was a good time for us to read it because we were in a Spanish-speaking country on vacation and my husband was an accountant until recently. It was interesting to read about someone else leaving accounting behind for a Latin vacation and figuring out what to do with their life. We especially liked that there were discussion questions at the end of the book that we were able to talk about together.

I loved this story of young Arab-Canadian navigating both her familial obligations and her desire to pursue her own dreams. As a person who isn't allowed to visit Cuba, Nadine's insights into Cuban life also showed me a side of the story I hadn't considered before. If you'd like a better understanding of the Muslim Lebanese culture, Canadian immigrant culture, and Cuban culture as well as a really fun story of a young woman's growth from dutiful daughter to woman going after what she wants from life, read this book.
