I remember so clearly the impact Song Of Myself had on me in my 12th grade AP English class. My father had passed away almost a year before, and needless to say, I was struggling with life and unmotivated with school. Knowing this, my amazing teacher pushed me that last semester. She encouraged me to write my own Song Of Myself following Whitman's style. I will never forget the gushing of emotion that flowed through my pen onto my tear stained paper.
