cleaver to write in the perspective of the five year old boy. It really gives a sense of his limited world!

Very dark, but well thought out.

I was a little skeptical going into this book, mainly because the content of the book dealt with such a disturbing theme. Often I find that authors can provide a little too much detail that makes the book difficult to read. However, Donoghue's brilliant portrayal of Jack left just enough out for the book for it to be powerful and not overwhelming. The only reason I give the book 4 instead 5 stars is because it took awhile to accept Jack's character. He was slightly unbelievable towards the beginning, but as the book progressed, I grew attached to him and his story.

This bizzare story told in the voice of 5 year-old boy living with his captive mother in a backyard shed, "room" by her kidnapper, is unnerving, uncomfortable, and unusual. It starts rather slow, as I imagine the days must go for this mother-child pair, but speeds up quickly as life turns unpredictable.

Started out slowly but then became fascinating as five-year-old Jack tells the story of himself and his mother, their imprisonment by a sexual predator in the room of the title, their escape, and life afterward; mostly believable from a five-year-old

This book was hard to put down. I thought it would be too difficult to finish a book being narrated by a five-year-old, but after awhile you fall into his pattern of speech and the story moves along at a quick pace. The conclusion was satisfying at least from the young boy's perspective. I recommend.
