_Black Juice_ by Margo Lanagan is a collection of short stories. In each one Margo Lanagan spins a delightfully dark tale, winding and twisting around you, until you're addicted to this book. The stories are diverse in plot with story lines such as "Singing My Sister Down" in which a boys sister is executed in a bizarre ritual involving tar and loved ones singing to you as you drown; to "Sweet Pippit" a story about elephants on a long journey to free their master, Pippit. Beautifully written, every page has a more unexpected twist than the last. Each tales end was significant and satisfying but my favorite ending came from the story "Wooden Bride" :"He disappears under the cloth. The dust flashes and thuds. The smoke jumps free like a loosed kite."
