The supposed Russian super spy, Rudolph Abel was much less than that. His best days were long behind him when he arrived in the US. Born William Fisher in the UK, Abel gets arrested in anything but spy fashion. At the same time, the circumstances that lead Abel and US U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers to that bridge in Germany make intriguing reading -- even 50 years afterward. But this is also a story about history -- and what might have been. Toss in the characters of Allen Dulles, Ike, JFK, and Krushchev and you will gain insight into the "real arms race" in the late 50s and early 60s.

    Well worth the read . . .
