“How Chris Ware doesn't off himself creating such depressing stories is beyond me. Acme 18 takes a break from Rusty Brown (which at least has a sense of humor) for the bleak tale of a depressed amputee. As always, the book is painstakingly beautiful, but Ware really piles on the glum here, making my bummer-meter skyrocket. I can't believe, as the copyright page suggests, that this is a piece of a larger story. Here's hoping Winter '08 brings back Rusty Brown, so I can leave this sob story behind me.”
