Liked It“Another finely crafted Powers' novel, mixing history with mythology. This one did not seem as grounded in actual events as some of the others I have read, but perhaps that has to do more with the topic of this book. As usual, reading his books makes me more interested in the source material.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“I've loved some of Powers's other books - Last Call, for example - but was really disappointed by this uninspired effort, despite the excellence of the initial premise. Ash, by Mary Gentle, is a much better exploration of the same themes.” see full review » see other reviews » |

A must for all fans of beers with VERY high alcohol content ;)”

It is brewed at an inn in Vienna, which is under siege by the Turks. Another slam bang historical fantasy from Tim Powers, his first. Also the first appearance of the Fisher King, a recurring theme in Powers' novels.”

How can you go wrong with that?”
“Early Powers, excellent period detail.”
