I thought The Making of the Atomic Bomb was a very good book. So did lots of other people; it won the Pulitzer , the National Book award and the National Book Critics Circle award. Unavoidably, there was some technical content, but it seemed to me the author tried his best to make the technical content of the book accessible to nontechnical readers. And, yes, some parts of the last chapter struck me as naive (and editorial), but withal this is certainly a book worth reading.

Whoever wrote 'Favourite book of all time........' left me scratching my head, I'm afraid.
Well......... It's an interesting read and I'd recommend it as being an important book. I now know a lot more about how difficult it is to build a Bomb, I now know some of the politics and a minor amount about the personalities concerned, but............... I doubt if a 'general' reader without a reasonable background in Science and a willingness to grind through masses of scientific detail, would have a hope of finishing this book. The parts of the last chapter concerning the West's relationship with the USSR after WW2 struck me as being naive at the best. I was pleased to find that Germany had no hope of processing enough Uranium to build a Bomb, but a little unsettled to become aware that they probably had enough technology to construct a 'dirty Bomb' - thank God the wind is usually in the West!

    Regards, Michael
