“so is it really as good as it sounds?”
“it was a master piece equivalent 2 s sheldons' tell me yopur dreams. these are books that will sto po your heart beat.”
“A very well written book with a suspenseful story line. I predicted a good portion of the ending, but enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind sitting up late into the night with a frighteningly psychological story.”
“A Take On "Thr3e" From A TeenTed Dekker's "Thr3e" was, to me, one of the better books that I've read, considering that I still don't read as many bokks as you guys do. Anyways, like the rest of you, the plot description on the back of the book really reeled me in, so of course I read it. In the 1st chapter, we have Kevin and Dr. John Francis talking about if "man is beyond the reach of evil," or something like that. Not to get sidetrackted or anything, but in my opinion, man will never be beyond the reach of evil, because no one is perfect. If we were perfect, and I know I'm pointing out the obvious here, but I think I'm on to something, there would be no evil. And on the same subject, Kevin asks him if we choose evil or do we create it. Dr. John Francis's response is that we choose it, not create it because we are evil, being the idiots that we are. And I agree. We can never create evil because it can't be formed... it's just there. Take 9/11 for instance. The terrorists chose to bomb us, they didn't form a new type of evil that was in their body, waiting for that certain time to be released, because that's impossible. You cannot create a new type of evil, because all of the thinkable and un-thinkable evil is right at our front doors. It can't act out it's badness by itself, it has to be chosen by one of us, the dominant animals in the Earth who are actually smart enough to do the day-to-day things that we do. Once we choose that certain evil(s), it can then reach it's full potential. We still have the power to "renonce" it, if you will, but that's only before we do it. I know it may sound a bit cliche, redundant, and probably naive, but to someone like me, the "average joe," who's actually starting to think about these types of things, it's almost like a revelation (lol). Anyway, getting back to the book, as somebody who's gonna be in high school next year, most of the dicussions about "good vs. evil, with the poor soul thrown in" kinda lost me, but heck, I was able to at least get the gist of it. It had it's weak spots, as with many books, but overall, it was one of the most thought provoking books I've ever read, if not the 1st. Even though Mr. Dekker might not of understood the full affects of M.P.D., at least it gave some of us a bit of a "thrower" ending, even though he was strongly hinting at it towards the middle of the book. I'm actually a wee bit excited to see the movie adaption of his book, although I must admit it looks like a mini horror wannabe movie, and that it may be totally off the book, but hey, that's Hollywood for ya. ROCK ON!!! ”
“A great read... but a half-baked ending?I was thoroughly engaged with Dekker's plot for "Thr3e" until the very last page. In fact, I pretty much finished it in one day -- it's a great book. That said, I have to admit being a little disappointed by the ending. Without any spoilers -- although this discussion may slip into them later -- the ending is sort of a "Beautiful Mind" meets "Copycat" finish, but without the finesse. So how do other folks feel about the ending? Was it worth the 250 pages? Did it actually tie up the loose ends for you? I'm left feeling a bit annoyed, even weeks later...”
“Interesting take on the book! The DID / MPD plotline is an interesting metaphor for that struggle within each person. Think of it as an amplification and outward expression of an inward conflict...The ending definitely stays with you, whether you find it satisfying or not :-)”
“The trailer has practically nothing in common with the book. It looks like a teenie-bopper horror wannabe or something along those lines. Subtlety people, subtlety!”
“Oh yeah, I saw that and went... umm, yeah... makes sense that the producer of X3 worked on it... heh, yeah, not sure about that one.”
“Have you seen the trailer for the Thr3e movie? It looked *terribly* cheesy. As in, "Left Behind", chedder-cheesy. I was excited to hear they were making it into a film... and then I saw that trailer ;-)”
“Dekker is definitely an amazing writer and Thr3e was his first title that got him any attention. I haven't seen Copycat, and I'm know you're talking about in terms of A Beautiful Mind, but I thought the ending was decent. It tied up all the loose ends for me, and I loved the character of his professor - I thought it was great how he philosophized about religion and morality to a certain extent. Yeah, I finished reading the book, and just couldn't wait to get another one. Definitely read the Circle Trilogy when you get a chance - you'll look at the gospels in a whole new light!”
