The ultimate of John's balderdashery. I saw Jack Barth best him at his own game in 1978 face-to-face, but you should still read this. And when you've grasped his complaint about "derivative fiction," notice John's book titled Grendel. I give it 3 stars for its importance and because John writes well, but it is a lousy argument with mean-spirited comments that prove John is better than everybody else. As a human, he treated people well. His treatment of fellow authors here is embarrassing.
