Part personal journey, part Civil War history, and part Borat: Tony Horwitz sets out to discover the attachment to the Civil War, and uncovers a little-seen side of the American South as well as some personal conclusions. Horwitz comes across an amazing diversity of people, delves into serious issues like race, economic class, and family politics, and prompts a plethora of "did she really say that, out loud and everything?" in the process.
