• Chloe Harding: Protagonist, in a long-term relationship with Phillip, and mother to Sam and Nat
• Hugh Stratton: He is the head of Corporate Strategy of a large dynamic company. He has lost a lot in his life, because of his lack of courage to stand up for himself and move out of his comfort zone.
• Amanda: She is Hugh's wife and a devoted mother. However, she is unsatisfied with their marriage, takes the upper hand in all household affairs, including managing their two kids and complains that she is almost "a single mother".
• Samuel Alexander "Sam" Murray: Chloe and Phillip's sixteen-year-old son.
• Philip Murray: Chloe's partner for 13 years. He is a branch manager of National Southern bank which has been taken over by PBL - where Hugh works. He is old fashioned but is deeply in love with Chloe. He is constantly tensed because of the downsizing that has been taking place as a result of the takeover.
• Gerard: An eccentric wine reviewer, something of a celebrity , who knows both Hugh's family and Chloe's family and double books a vacation for both families in his villa in Spain. He likes to brew trouble and watch it when it happens.
• Beatrice Stratton: The daughter of Hugh and Amanda
• Octavia Stratton: The daughter of Hugh and Amanda
• Della: Hugh's secretary at PBL.
• Tony: The director of Human Resources at PBS
• Jenna: The babysitter hired by Amanda for Beatrice and Octavia. A young rebellious girl, with a good heart. Even though she is very young, she knows the world really well, and also how to enjoy her life.
