Jack Rittenhouse My Brother Sam is dead
The book My Brother Sam is dead is written by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. It takes places in Redding, Connecticut during the Revolutionary War. The main characters are Timmy Meeker, Father, and Sam Meeker. Sam goes to college at Yale and Tim lives with his parents in Redding, Connecticut. One day Sam comes home from college to tell his family that he is joining the war and fight for the Patriots. His parents who are Tories and support the British do not approve in it. Sam and his father end up getting in a big fight and Sam gets kicked out of the house. While this happens it is hard on Tim because he does not know who he should side with his brother or his father. Sam eventually steals the family’s gun and goes off to fight the British. Throughout the book Sam returns back to Redding and only talks to Tim. He tells Tim of all the things he sees while at war. Then Tim and his father go on the yearly trip to Verplants Point, to buy items for their tavern. While on the trip Tim meets his cousins. On the way back they run into some trouble and because Sam stole the family gun they have no way to protect them. They end up getting robed and father gets killed. From then on the book changes and Tim has a lot more responsibility. With Sam gone and Father dead Tim becomes the man of the house and stops going to school and runs the tavern with his mom. At the end of the book Sam ends up being caught by the British commander in Redding. They ended up killing Sam in the town square in front of everyone in the town. Sam had been in the war for three years and was executed for treason. After the war Sam and his mother sold the tavern and moved to Wilkesbarre Pennsylvanian, and opened a new Traven.
My Brother Sam is dead is one of my favorite books and I recommend it to people of all ages
