“Lilly Tearwater ran and inn and had ghostly apparitions appearing every night that brought people from far and wide to experience the 'thrill' of being haunted. Samuel Temple planned to expose a scientific reason behind the mystery. Tortured and held captive in the Sudan, Samuel couldn't bear to be touched, yet he fell for Lilly and so wanted to overcome this and be close to her.
