Bethany: Main character. About to turn 13 years old. Loves to swim. Wears glasses. Blonde hair
Aunt Myrlie: Bethany's aunt (the sister of Bethany's mother) and the mother of Joss. Works as a kindergarten teacher.
Jocelyn: "Joss". She is Myrlie's daughter and was Elizabeth's cousin, born two months after Elizabeth. Works as a minister. She is also Bethany's cousin.
Walter Cole: Bethany's father. He is also called a bunch of other names. When he still had Elizabeth as daughter, his last name was Krull.
Hillary Cole: Bethany's mother.
Elizabeth Krull: Elizabeth is someone Bethany gets compared to a lot, which confuses her, initially. Looks and acts exactly like Bethany
