I read like the first half of this book. It was okay, but kind of creepy, and a little pointless because the ending was obvious. (I skipped ahead to it)

I recommend “Turnabout” to all readers because of its unexpected twists and turns, and its interesting perspective of the future. The main characters, Amelia Hazelwood and Anny Beth Flick, are both very willing when they are chosen for Project Turnabout. Anny Beth is very straight forward and a leader of others in project Turnabout, especially in the conference room when chaos erupts about not being able to see their families anymore. Amelia, also known as Melly, on the other hand, is a very cautious person who thinks through everything before she does it. An example of this would be, when leaving the agency; Melly thought through all of her options and the best one for her was to leave with Anny Beth. Even though this was an important part in the book, it was not the climax. The climax was, when Melly and Anny Beth were telling A.J. Hazelwood about Project Turnabout and almost got caught by the police. I know this because, this point is the deciding factor, if the two teens will have a place to live, or be revealed to the public. When A.J. says she will take care of them, this leads to all of them finally confronting the agency, too. The theme of “Turnabout” is that living beyond the natural life span is not worth it if you don’t have the motivation to live any longer. I know this because from the beginning a woman committed suicide because she wasn’t allowed to see her family anymore. Near the end of the book, also, when the doctors were contemplating if they should release the un-aging drug to the public they thought about people who had a reason to live an extra life. Finally, when Anny Beth and Melly found A.J., their reason to live, both decided they wanted to live until they reached zero. This is another great book by Haddix, and for its captivating viewpoint on immortality, I recommend “Turnabout” to readers of all ages.

I just finished reading Turnabout by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It was a really cool story about two best friends, Melly and Anny Beth that were old and ready to die. It was a miracle when they where offered the chance to be young again by participating in a top-secret experiment called Project Turnabout. They received injections that made them grow younger, and with about fifty other participants they got a chance at a new life again. But when the injections that were supposed to stop the unaging process turned out to be deadly, Melly and Anny Beth decided to run for their lives. Now it is 2085. Melly and Anny Beth are teenagers. They have no idea what will happen once they are babies again, but they do know they will soon be too young to take care of themselves. Melly and Anny Beth now have a mission to go find someone to take care of them.
I really liked Turnabout because it included a little bit of everything. There was science fiction because becoming younger in time isn’t realistic but there was also a touch of realistic fiction. The story emphasized the friendship of Melly and Anny Beth and also their emotions, as they had to leave their family and friends behind to start a new life. I could relate to the book also because the book ended as they were teenagers and they went through some of the same things I do.
The story was told in a journal type of way and they were jumping back from the current year to memories they had when they were old. As they became younger, their family and friends had no idea about the whole project and they just assumed they had died of old age. I think a good theme that could fit this book is hope. Anny Beth and Melly had to have hope in each other and be able to survive outside of the agency. They have to have hope in themselves, too and determination to survive and be able to emotionally be okay to live multiple lives. Hope is a great theme for Turnabout because it can apply to many characters. Another good theme could be risk-taking. The whole project was a new idea and they had to experiment on people like Anny Beth and Melly. It was a risk the doctors took and they pretty much accomplished the experiment.

I'll be honest.... this book is a waste of time. You don't even find out what happens in the end.
