- Edward Cullen: Bella's romantic lead, a humane vampire. Can read minds, except for Bella's. Loves Bella intensely, doesn't like his rival—Jacob Black, a werewolf. - Alice Cullen: Vampire, adopted sibling of Edward. She has the ability to see the future. Can not see the werewolf's futures or anyone close to them.
- Renée Dwyer: Bella's enthusiastic, childish mom who divorced with Bella's dad, Charlie and remarried with a younger man, Phil. She is very worried and protective of Bella Swan.
- Phil Dwyer: Bella's stepfather, a minor league baseball player.
- Jasper Whitlock: Vampire, adopted sibling of Edward. He has the ability to sense and affect the emotions of others. the mate of Alice

- Embry Call: A Quileute teenager, became a member of the pack earlier than Jacob. Embry's father is unknown. His mother is from a nearby tribe.
- Royce King II: A human who lived during the time of Great Depression. He was engaged to Rosalie Hale for a short period of time.
- Jessica Stanley: Used to be Bella's best friend, but after Bella stopped dating with him, she went into the "Anti-Bella" side... even though they are back together now. She dates Mike Newton off and on again.

Eclipse takes place mainly in Washington.
- Forks, Washington: Bella's hometown, Edwards current location.
- La Push: Native American reservation where Jacob Black lives.
- Seattle: Seattle has recently been ravaged by countless murders, making headlines throughout the state. Humans believe it is the work of a serial killer, but the Cullens believe it is the work of newborn vampires.
- Alaska: This is the home of the Denali clan. Bella also chooses the University of Alaska for college, if she goes. She and Edward will likely move here if she is turned.
- Jacksonville, Florida: Bella's mother Renee and her husband Phil live here.
Organizations edit
- Vampires: Beautiful beings who do not eat, sleep, or drink. They do not need to breath, but do so because it is more comfortable.They are very strong, fast, and smart. Their one failing is that they thirst for human blood. But some covens of vampires (like the Cullens and the Denali Clan) don't kill people, but instead drink the blood of animals.
- Quileute Shapeshifters: Quileute men that shape-shift into giant wolves. They think of themselves as werewolves, though real werewolves cannot turn at will. They are direct descendants of Emphraim Black and other men who made a treaty with vampires long ago. Their only enemy is the vampire. Their teeth are made specially to tear through the vampires' granite-like skin. In werewolf form, they can hear each others' thoughts.
- The Volturi: The "royalty" of the vampire world. In the past when vampires lived as they wanted, the Volturi stepped up into a place of authority. They helped convince humans that they had eradicated vampires, and later that they didn't exist at all. They enforce laws that help to keep vampires secret. However, they have become corrupt and find ways to twist the laws to serve their own desires.

- Vampire: A preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, that is said to suck the blood of sleeping persons at night.
- Werewolf: According to Quileute legend the descendant of the Quileute Spirit Warriors who can shift form from human to wolf, always warm at about 108 degrees.
- Phase: Werewolf term for transforming from human form to wolf form
- Imprinting: Like love at first sight, for werewolves but much stronger. Feeling that happens when a werewolf knows that he has found THE ONE.
- Newborn: A newly added vampire to immortality; a recently bitten human. They have red eyes and struggle through an ugly first few years of being a vampire. They are attracted to blood easily.
