“Every Christian who wants to know how to communicate more deeply with God will appreciate this book”

This is not the kind of book to read in one sitting, better to be taken one chapter at a time. Also not the kind of book for everyone, it takes a little determination to make it all the way through (some might say it is a little too thorough). Even though it moves along kind of slowly at times, I was highly impressed by the author as well as the content. The author is obviously a highly intelligent and thoughtful man, and he writes like a professor. I would recommend this to anyone who has the patience to study a book rather than read through it.”

Reading it so quickly made quite an impact. I appreciate that he talked about so many different kinds of prayer. If you're thinking about reading it, do. ”

When, in the book’s first paragraph, the author referred to “the agony of prayerlessness,” I knew just what he meant.
When people ask me for a book to help them learn how to pray or deepen their prayer life, I often steer them to this book (or Philip Yancey's book, Prayer).”
“Foster takes you on a journey into realms of prayer so alien to me and I know so many others. I was involved in international prayer ministry but I now know I have limited my prayer life due to a lack of knowledge of the depths of prayer Foster reveals in this classic. Some may find a Quaker's theology somewhat askew from their own but I found nothing seriously difficult. There are those who oppose contemplative prayer but consider that the Psalms are full of contemplation of an awesome Creator God. For anyone interested in a more initimate relationship with God and richer prayer life this is a must read.”
