I enjoyed this first book of the trilogy. The story was good - I'm a fan of anything with a supernatural twist to it, and this one definitely fits the bill - with lots of suspense and excitement.

The brothers of the title are three men, who, as 10-yr old boys inadvertently released something evil on their small town. Now, every seven years the town goes kind of crazy for seven days - people get violent, commit suicide, even kill. After the week is over, no one really remembers what happened. Except Cal, Fox and Gage, now men, who know exactly what's happening - what they aren't sure of, is how to stop the evil once and for all.

Enter the women - three of them to be exact - who, for varying reasons arrive in town a few months before the next "seven" week will take place. The women become involved in the battle to vanquish the evil once and for all.

The way Roberts ratchets up the action, and the little unexpected twists she throws in keep the story very interesting. I listened to this on audio book, and I found that definitely added a layer to the enjoyment. The scenes where the six protagonists are directly facing the evil [which, extra creepily, sometimes appears as a demonic little boy] are really well written to get you leaning forward on your chair, anxiously awaiting the outcome.

Although this is a trilogy, there is an actual ending to this book, as opposed to a cliff-hanger, which is a big positive for me. I hate it when an author leaves you hanging on the edge of a cliff waiting to find out if someone dies, or whatever. Especially when you usually have to wait months for the next book. We know at the end that there is more battle to come, but for now we've all surivived to fight another day.

the book is great... however, i'm currently listening to the audio version through Brilliance Audio. They should have done either a full cast or a female/male actors for this... Some actors can pull off voices in both sexes, but this one falls below the mark...

In the small village of Hawkins Hollow, three best friends who share the same birthday sneak off into the woods for a sleepover the evening before turning 10. But a night of pre-pubescent celebration turns into a night of horror as their blood brother oath unleashes a three-hundred year curse. Twenty-one years later, Cal Hawkins and his friends have seen their town plagued by a week of unexplainable evil events two more times - every seven years. With the clock winding down on the third set of seven years, someone else has taken an interest in the town's folklore. Quinn is a well known scholar of local legends, and despite Cal's protests, insists on delving in the mystery. But when the first signs of evil appear months early, it's not only the town Cal tries to protect, but also his heart.

As the story begins there are three boys(Cal, Gage and Fox) who share the same birthday. Not only that but they were born at almost the same time. They will be 10 on July 7, 1987. They have been friends all their life so they tell their parents they are camping out in Fox's parents woods when , in fact, they are going to camp out at the forbidden "Pagan Stone". There are many stories pertaining to this place and also there is a pond named Hester's pond where, susposidly, a young woman drowned herself by filling her pockets with stones and jumping in. They say that she will grab your ankles and pull opu under if she can get to you while you are in the pond. On the night of their birthday the boys are at the Pagan Stone for their campout and they unleash a deamon that causes terror to the whole town. For seven days every seven years there are all kinds of stuff happens. in the year of the 21st birthday a young lady(Quinn) comes to town to research the story and write a book. Another lady(Layla) finds herself in town and really dosen't know why. Quinn askes her friend(Cybil) to come to town as they all get the idea that they are connected, to each other, and to they story here. They are determined to put an end to this deadly seven this year.

This is the first Nora Roberts book that I have read. I was hooked to it from the moment that I picked it Up! I have already started on The Hallow the second book in the series. I hope that they turn this story into a movie!

Started a little slow for my tastes, but left me wanting more. The characters were all really vivid. Just the right amount of romance and suspense.
