But this book was too challenging and too articulate for me to give it anything less. I read it in combination with Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Letters and Papers from Prison" and the cumulative effect was a renewed passion and yearning to follow Jesus, not just in word, but in action and in truth. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a book that illuminates the spiritual disciplines while still remaining firmly rooted in the grace of gospel. Dallas Willard's book is truly remarkable.”

I enjoyed the chapter on the easy yoke and his idea that asking WWJD is the wrong question to ask. He says instead of asking what would Jesus do?, we should ask how would Jesus prepare? We can't decide to overcomer temptation without preparing ourselves to fight temptation. His answer is we prepare with the spiritual disciplines. I still had a hard time getting through this one. I think I skipped quite a few pages. ”

He submits that the reason most Christians don't seem very much like Jesus is because most Christians don't actually do what Jesus did while he was here among us. Deeply challenging thought.”

If we want to grow, we need to exercise our faith. Much deeper than that, but well worth the read. I'll read anything published with Dallas Willard's name on it!”
