Gideon Mortriste, the last of the legendary Archers that once served the kingdom of Laummoren, roams a lawless land that bears odd similarities to our own. He was only looking for a hot meal and a warm bed when he entered a local inn one fateful night, but what he found instead was an unexpected last chance at redemption.

Torn between honoring an oath he once swore decades ago, and his desperate need for a respite from it, the Archer Gideon struggles to maintain a tenuous grip on his sanity as he continues to be haunted by the memories and dreams of his lost love and of his fallen companions. Hoping to find a temporary peace for his tormented soul, he reluctantly decides to accept an offer to serve as bodyguard to the sole teenage daughter of a local nobleman who has been the target of several recent kidnapping attempts.

As the Archer begins his service to the Lady Serena Vasperan, rescuing her time and again with the aid of his deadly bow and arrows, he finds himself becoming the reluctant mentor to a most eager and gifted student. And as each learns more about the other’s troubled past, their relationship begins to deepen into something almost father-daughter in nature.

An unexpected journey away from peril strengthens this bond between them, but they are soon waylaid by an evil and mysterious force from Gideon’s past that preys upon their fears and threatens to drive them apart. Haunted by nightmares and consumed by fear for her father’s safety, Serena sets out alone to return home and unknowingly back into danger.

After a victory against his own demons, the Archer rushes to Serena’s aid, and in his final act of redemption, is able to save her yet again—but this time, at the cost of his own life. In the Archer’s final moments, an understanding passes between Gideon and Serena, and she knows he has finally found peace, and he knows his legacy will live on with her and her vow to re-forge the line of the Archers.
