- Mat Cauthon: The son of battles. He is the master strategist, the luckiest man alive. He is also a Ta'varen. He blew the Horn of Valere. Compulsive gambler and womanizer yet never an oath breaker.
- Perrin Aybara (aka Young Bull): The Wolf King. The commander of armies. He is the third ta'varen.Talks with wolves.
- Elayne Trakand: Queen of Andor, mother to be of the Dragon Reborn's twins and Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah.
- Thomdril "Thom" Merrilin: Former Court Bard of Andor, now a Gleeman. Meets the Emond's Fielders and decides to travel with them. He is very world-weary, a master flute and harp player, and good with knives.
- Birgitte: Hero of legend, Warder to Elayne, commander of Camelyn's royal guard.
