“This is a true story about a brave and compassionate woman who did volunteer work in one of China's orphans. She gives us a compilation of unforgettable memories. Children who are having their basic needs provided for barely. Children dangling from a third story window, children tied to chairs, children in need of hugs and encouragement. In 2003, Kate Bratt's life changed as she and her husband moved to China for his job. Kay decided to volunteer to work with children. This move and decision began a new path on her life's journey. She was from South Carolina and had two children who chose to remain in America with family. She began to work at the orphanage to practice her Chinese and to avoid isolation. She had to get past the distrust of the staff and to steady herself as she found herself seeing infants starving to death, and worked to gain the trust of these marginalized children. Kay learned to deal with Chinese bueracracy and to carefully work around the system to make the lives of these abandoned children happier, more secure and better able to have a future as they grew up.”
