Grace returns to the cat's dimension after she receives a letter from them imploring her for help. Upon returning there is no one there to greet her and as Grace explores the cat city it appears deserted. It's not long before Grace runs into a Drawl that tries to kill her. Grace is rescued by a couple of cats and taken to a camp in the forest surrounding the cat city. Grace is introduced to the cats new leader, a platoon sergeant Forkna. He dismisses Graces story that she is from the human dimension and believes she is a drawl trick. Fredya appears and vouches for Grace. Grace discovers that they Drawl had invaded en masse after she had left and many cats had died. Those that survived had fled to the forests.

The Drawl were using the cats as slaves to construct something in the clearing outside of town. Grace decides to leave the small band of survivors and search for Boot. SHe meets up with Yin and together they go to find Boot and Yin. The Drawl have captured Yang and he is enslaved and forced to construct some giant machine. He warns Grace that the machines purpose is probably to stage an attack on the human dimension. Yin wants to free her teacher but he warns them against it. So once again Grace goes looking for Boot. This time, however, she is captured by Thaal who has managed to free himself from his prison. Thaal picks up where he left of in intending to sacrifice Grace.

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Grace: Grace certainly changes during this volume of the trilogy. She is gaining in confidence with her ecounters with the Drawl and in helping the cats. Grace's life outside the cat dimension is also explored as Grace struggles very awkwardly to find love and deal with school bullies. The is one moving scene where Boot and Grace discuss the future of the survivors. Grace and Boot both have valid view points one pratical and one moral. They argue and we see how much Grace has changed since book one.
  • Boot: Boot grows in this episode as much as Grace does. Circumstances force Boot to become more ruthless in his attitude. He is responsible for the welfare of his squad but also starts to accept responsibility for the lives of his people. Boot is quite moody and brooding in this volume.
  • Forkna: Forkna is the self appointed saviour of his people. But he lacks experience and the wisdom to be cautious. Instead he endangers the lives of the poeple he is trying to save by his arrogance. Forkna has the opportunity to redeem himself in the final climax of the story.
