This might win for best vacation fluff of the summer, and I mean that in the awesomest way.  I've seen Anna Godbersen's YA Luxe series described as Edith Wharton meets Gossip Girl, and I would say that this novel is a grown-up version of the Luxe books.  Or, how about this: ever...

This is a period romance where an American heiress marries a mysterious, broke British Duke. I liked it, but I'm a little partial to all thinkgs British right now.

I had not heard of this author before. I honestly picked it up because of the comparison to my absolute favorite show ... Downton Abbey. There were a lot of similarities because of the upstairs/downstairs references. I love reading books that take place in the late 1800s and loved having this picture painted for me. I was a little disappointed in some plot points but it was a good story.

Another Downtown Abby genre-told from the point of view of a very wealthy American heiress. Think of Cora before she married Lord Grathom.

Fans of Rebecca will love this early 20th-c drama. More than anything, I like the way Goodwin develops Cora's character; somehow the most insipid of characters becomes the most steely of the bunch. The ending is a bit pat and a bit too quick, but I enjoyed this story.

Fluff book. I did despise the British society of the 1900's! I read another review stating this book was similar to a soap opera. i agree. I thought the ending was abrupt.

Reads like a Henry James or Jane Austin novel, albiet a bit updated version set in 1890s US & UK.

Not bad but I expected more. It was as if until a certain point the plot is going in one direction and then it sort of ends abruptly, somehow like it often happens with soap operas: months of lingering and then all problems are suddenly solved in the last episode...
