An electrifying read that empowers women and remains relevant today. I would recommend it to any woman or man!

I had never really understood what all the fuss over feminism was about - but then, I took it for granted that women were equal to men, and that any man who said otherwise was just plain wrong. This book, whilst providing an American view of it rather than an Australian view, has gone a long way towards explaining it.

There was a time in the United States when women could not vote, own property, make decisions for her children, leave her marriage or father, be educated or represent herself in public. These injustices took centuries to work on, to this day there are places that do not extend these rights to women. Once a woman is legally equal it is imperative that she free her self from the mental restrictions of those injustices. There have always been women in the work force, but their contribution has been traditional and therefore dismissed by history. This book needs to modernized for countries like China, India and Turkey, so those women can see themselves as liberated.

Does this really need an introduction? A simply portrayed picture of life of women in US and how they were pushed into a life and an image not of their own choice, only to be then ditched and left adrift. Recognition of this reality and coming to terms with it freed the bonds they had not realised were chafing, or if they had, had not found way to free and survive.
