Good examination of morals and relationships amongst the educated class. A fascinating look at self-delusion with a narrator on par with HH from Lolita.

I started this yesterday, but I just can NOT finish this book. It's so boring that it does nothing more than put me to sleep. Without a doubt one of the most awful things I've ever (partially) read.

This book was different.. It kept me turning the pages but was creepy. I thought that both of the woman in the book changed how they were shown at the beginning to the end.

Can't remember too much, but I know I liked it. Read as a book club book with other teachers. Made for some interesting conversation.

Weirdly compelling story - unreliable narrator tells of an Art teacher in a British school who embarks on a sexual affair with a 16 year old boy at the school. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the novel's protagonist is really the narrator, who in a twisted way, cares about the art teacher but reveals her secret.

Unless Sheba is dependent on Barbara, Barbara will revert to the nobody she was before. Was Barbara in love with Sheba? Or desperate to have intimate friendship after a life of loneliness?

At first I saw the movie and I thought it was okay. But I think the book is much better. The woman who had the affair was so structured while the old woman was completely free. She was like an evil but insane woman that just wants the best for the woman.
