Kevla Bai-sha: The illegitimate daughter of Keishla and Tahmu. The main character of the story. Has black hair with red highlights in the sun. A spirited and intelligent young girl.
Tahmu-kha-Rakyn: The Khashim of the Clan of Four Waters. Once loved Keishla and had a child unknown to him for ten years, Kevla. Married to Yeshi and has a son with her named Jashemi.
Yeshi: The Khashima of the Clan of Four Waters. Married to Tahmu and mother of Jashemi.
Sahlik: An old five score servent of the Clan of Four Waters. Chose to stay with the clan instead of returning to her own after her five years was complete. She runs much of the household and is the confidant of Tahmu.
Rakyn: The previous Khashim of the Clan of Four Waters and Tahmu's father.
Naram: Brother of Yeshi. As tradition dictates Jashemi speant a year in his household. Naram is a loud man fond of drinking and hunting. Many in his household fears his wrath. His wife is named Pela.
Halid: Tahmu's second who would take over as leader of the Clan of Four Waters if something were to happen to Tahmu before Jashemi is of age. He is a tall solid man with a beard.
The Clan of Four Waters: A powerful and wealthy clan due to the intersection of two rivers near by and the abundance of water. Tahmu is the leader of this clan and it is this clan that Kevla becomes a member of.
The Sa'abah Clan: A nomadic clan and the breeders of the rare Sa'abah's.
Sa'abah: Roughly the size of horses, but not built like a horse. They have massive hind legs and small forelegs with dainty appendages, a huge fluffy tail which can be used to shade both the beast and the rider, and large ears. They are intelligent, gentle, and herd oriented animals.
Kuli: Demon's. To be Kuli-Cursed is to be sentenced to death.
