Tessa is a young girl who has recently lost her brother due to a drunk-driving accident. She deals with the struggles of grief and the fact of knowing that she knew he was going out that night, but doesn't have the nerve to tell her parents about it. It gets harder for her to talk to her mom with her drifting farther, and farther away. She soon finds people to talk to and understand her. And slowly, but surely her parents understand her as well and what she is going through. They gradually help her through it.
