“I thought I would like this because I have always liked and been interested in fonts and typography... probably because my mom was a sign painter, so I grew up noticing not just what words were written, but how the words looked. I found this book came up far short of what I was expecting.
First of all, there were many topics that were repeated over and over throughout the book, and towards the end they became wearisome. Also, there were some topics that were mentioned throughout the book, but never explained until two-thirds of the way through, which was frustrating. The overall writing and flow of this book just didn't work for me. It seemed like each chapter was written separately, and then randomly lumped together into a book. I found myself skimming the redundant stuff towards the end, just so I could finish the book.
Also, in a book about fonts, one is more apt to notice the typeset of the book itself, so it would have been nice if it had a less annoying font choice. I found it kind of ironic that the font choice in this book was so cumbersome... my eyes refused to look at it for more than about 45 minutes at a time.
The biggest positives of this book are the clever title and the cute cover.”
