  • Charlie Bone: Descended from the Yewbeams, a family with magical endowments, Charlie can hear the voices of people in photographs.
  • Henry Yewbeam: Charlie's great-great-uncle, traveled from the past via the Time Twister
  • Gabriel Silk: A friend of Charlie's. His power is that he can feels the feelings of whoever else has worn the clothes he's wearing.
  • Paton Yewbeam: Charlie's uncle. He usually likes to be alone, but he's always there for Charlie. He is embarrassed of his power, which is make lights get so bright they usually explode.
  • Manfred Bloor: Headboy of Bloor's Academy. A hypnotist
  • Benjamin Brown: Charlie's neighbor and friend. He's small and quiet and loves his dog. He is not endowed.
  • Tancred Torsson: Descended from the Scandinavian storm-bringer named after the thunder god, Thor, Tancred can bring wind, rain, thunder and lightning
  • Cook: Cook at Bloor's, helps protect the endowed children
  • Billy Raven: Descended from a man who conversed with ravens that sat on a gibbet where dead men hung. For this talent, he was banished from his village. Billy can talk to and understand animals.
  • Lysander Sage: Descended form a line of African wise men, he can call up his spirit ancestors
  • Grandma Bone: Charlie's paternal grandmother
  • Emma Tolly: Descended from the Spanish swordsman who accompanied the Red King on his journeys, Emma can turn into a bird.
  • Mr. Pilgrim: One of the music teachers at Bloor's.
  • James Yewbeam: Charlie's great-grandfather
  • Zelda Dobsinski: Descended from a long line of Polish magicians, Zelda is telekinetic. She can move objects with her mind.
  • Mrs. Onimous: Proprietor of the Pets' Cafe
  • Ezekiel Bloor: Manfred's great-grandfather
  • Fidelio Gunn: One of Charlie's friends, an unendowed student at Bloor's
  • Dorcas: Endowed student at Bloor's, her endowment is unknown
  • Julia Ingledew: Emma's aunt
