If this book was written by any other author, I'd give it five stars. However, since Sarah Dessen wrote it, I was widely disappointed. The book had quirky characters, like all of Dessen's novels, however the plot was somewhat unoriginal and the setting dull. Again, for Sarah Dessen, I'd give it three stars.

I totally agree with you, Bethany. I loved the message of having more self-confidence, but for a Sarah Dessen book it was a little boring and, like you said, unoriginal. I felt like the plot was a bit vague, jumping from subject to subject, event to event, and not making a solid foundation. The characters were great, though. Not one of her greatest books, but not the worst. If you like books with great morals then don't hesitate to read it!

This book I think was a really great book. I loved the way that Sarah made a point of saying that it's okay to be who you truly are. I understand what it feels like to not know how to be yourself, but that doesn't mean that I can't try. What I think is that everybody wants to feel like they fit in so they try anything they can to get into the "in" crowd, whereas Nicole does everything she can to distance herself from everyone. She only does this though because she is afraid that they will make fun of her because she used to be fat. Then she was accused of being a slut which didn't help her situation anymore. She changes her appearance then goes to live with her Aunt while her mother is touring the world. Nicole (Colie) meets Norman, a weird artist, but a kind hearted person and the two girls who live next door. They become friends, except for Isabel who for some reason doesn't like Colie. Something happens and then all of a sudden Isabel is helping Colie discover her true self. Norman paints a portrait of Colie and he helps her realize that she is beautiful the way she is and that she doesn't need to change who she is. Well that's all I'm going to say. If you want to know more about it then head down to your local library and check it out. I guarantee you'll looovvveee it!!!! I definitely rate this 5 stars!!!!
