I read this a long time ago, but still remember how moving it was, beautifully written!

Riveting from page one. There's a reason why this book was so popular.

I know I shed more tears reading this book than any other EVER. Roots worked in my heart to increase my understanding of the history of slavery and to decrease my prejudice as a result.

The summer when I was 14 and too young to work at the mall, i read this book by the pool. As soon as I had finished it, I put it down and after about 10 minutes, picked it up again and started from the beginning. This book began for me a keen interest in American Black Literature that continued through college and beyond.

The book that started the family reunion craze.

Had the great priveledge of hearing Haley lecture about Roots while he was still writing it--spent several years asking booksellers if it was out yet! Will never forget him describing the naming ritual for new babies, held up to the sky & told 'behold, the only thing greater than yourself...' Thrilling! None of us who saw him lecture were disappointed when Roots finally did hit the stores.
