“This is the second book in Slaughter's Grant County Series. While I enjoy Slaughter's writing, this book fell short.
The scandalous subject matter didn't bother me, but the poor character development certainly did. The protagonists spend far too much time beating themselves up over what they should have seen and done rather than solving the mystery and catching the the guilty parties. The real problem here is too many psyches at play. Had Slaughter narrowed her psychological focus to the two primary characters, the story might have worked despite the couple's puerile romance.
This is my fifth Karin Slaughter book and the only one I'd deem not worth the read. It remains to be seen whether I'll give book three of this series a try.
All that said: kudos to Slaughter for not tying everything up in a pretty bow at the end.”

Jeffrey and Detective Lena Adams begin their investigation into the case. They find the children close to the victim aren't talking. The families have turned their backs. When a young girl is abducted, it becomes clear that there is a dark presence in the small Georgia town.
This is the second book in Slaughter's Grant County series. This series should definitely be read in order since this book touches on many things that happened in the previous book and gives us background into what makes the great characters in this book tick. This is a very dark suspense novel. Warning to readers...the subject matter may not appeal to everyone. My rating: 4 Stars.”
“Well done and continues the story of the first book but could be read without reading that one.”

I'm enjoying the characters and the picture of small town life depicted in this series. Horrendous depiction of child sexual abuse and pornography using children.”

“It is a book with many twists, shocking and confronting. There were some parts that could've been a bit shorter, but nothing that really bothered me. It is a good story, read it in 2 days. ”

Kisscut was of a very different subject matter than I've read before, something I would normally NOT read, but she worte so good about a very tabu subject that even I was able to read it with interest!
This is the second in the Grant County Series, and I've enjoyed watching the relationship between Sara and Jeffrey grow and dance. I look forward to this continuing, while I also hope that Lena continues to fight her demons from the first book!
Karin keeps me coming back for more!”
