  “Karin Slaughter's name on a book is a guarantee I will pick it up and take it home. In this one, there's something about the character of Angie that fascinates me. I don't always like her, but I want to see her manage to find a way out of her past and into some happiness. The things I don't like about her are the things that make her a believable character, and all those faults just make me root for her. These are characters I'll follow in more books. She's flawed in a way that addicts the reader, similar to the character of Mallory in Carol O'Connell's books.”

  Wanneer rechercheur Michael Ormewood voor een moordzaak naar de beruchte wijk Grady Homes gaat, wordt hij geconfronteerd met het gruwelijk toegetakelde lichaam van Aleesha Monroe. De moord is des te schokkender wanneer blijkt dat het gaat om een nieuw geval uit een serie vergelijkbare misdaden. Het Georgia Bureau of Investigation wordt ingeschakeld en Ormewood moet noodgedwongen samenwerken met speciaal agent Will Trent van het Arrestatieteam - iemand die hij bij voorbaat al niet mag. Vierentwintig uur later komt het geweld angstaanjagend dichtbij wanneer in zijn eigen achtertuin een lichaam wordt aangetroffen. Alles wijst erop dat het raadsel van Monroe's dood is verstrengeld met een verleden dat niet met rust gelaten wil worden.”

  “Karin Slaughter is the absolute best crime/mystery writer I have come across in this day and age. Her novels will simply astound you with their heart-racing moments and intrigue. Every time I pick one of her novels up I cannot stop reading until I'm done and I still find myself begging for more. She's a writer with no fear! She wields her instruments like a knife ready to dig in deep and take you by surprise at every turn!”
