It gets draggy in the middle though, but the storyline, all in all, in bone chilling and absolutely thrilling. I wish it never end.

Very dark and intense. A very unusual and different story set in an unfamiliar world. The plotting is tense and clever. I find the characters overwritten (isn't that a hoot from me) and they get in the way of the story. I am ruined by Hollywood - of course, I am reading with an eye towards adapting which colors the way I see the book. Ultimately, I liked it but found the lead character too much to be plausible.

Read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking it's in my all time Top 10. Raw, sensuous, troubling, exhilarating, fiercely feminist, and just a plain good thriller.

I really liked this book. It's dark and shows "the underbelly" of contemporary Japanese society. A couple of scenes are rather gory, but the story line is compelling. A fascinating peek into the desperate lives of Japanese women working on an assembly line. A great change of pace from the more popular historical fiction written about Japan.

a great suspense novel, the story keeps you hook through the end. I like the way that the author intertwined each of the characters lives together. It's very dark and often disturbing but yet realistic. I felt that Kirino was able shed some light to the more unknown side of the Japanese Society and was able to give a name to what can drive a person to do the extreme. If you're not too squeamish about reading detailed accounts of body dismemberment, then I highly recommend this XD.
