I was disappointed with this book. Being from Long Island ( no longer living there) and knowing this area, I was excited to get reading this book. While his depiction of the area and lifestyle of the people there were correct, I just could not connect with these characters at all. This book dragged on and on. And a relationship with a mafia member like this would never happen this way at all. The book left me feeling sad. Of course there were parts that I enjoyed such as the talk about the history of the area, the land, the horses. But for the most part I did not enjoy this book.
I suppose I have been spoiled by his John Corey novels. I can totally connect with this character. I find him funny and sarcastic, but I love it. The character John Sutter in this book was somewhat sarcastic but not very funny.
