I actually listened to this book. The audiobook is read by the author. And I've read a TON of very negative reviews about this book. A lot of them seem to be judging author, Julie Powell's actions, rather than the book itself. While I do not personally agree with some of the decisions she made, I still enjoyed the book very much and know that those were her decisions to make, not mine and I can respect that she made decisions she felt were best for her at the moment, whether they were mistakes or not. I will say, if you can't stand graphic cussing or explicit descriptions of sex, this may not be the book for you. The other complaint that kept popping up about this book was that people wondered why they should care about this woman's sex/love life and relationships. While the title, cover, and previous background knowledge of Julie Powell may have lead you to believe that this book, too, was about food but it has a couple different stories actually going on. First, it's about Julie Powell's apprenticeship in a butcher shop. Second, it's about her failing marriage and love affair. But, to me, it was well written enough that I was interested in her story. And truly, I believe everyone has a story worth hearing anyway. :) One last thing - there are recipes included throughout that are intertwined with the story. I thought they were fun. Necessary? Probably not, but definitely fun! :)
