This was my first SF book I read in English. Its easy to read and I could not put it down! Still remember getting a serious sun burn reading it at the Santa Monica Beach in 1983! Its a book hard to put down.

recently I read the books (yes, the german version consists of 3 books) again for the second time. I loved it.
Ok - well, some times you think theres a little scifi-80s-trash-style - but I think thats ok.
If consider that Hubbard wrote the books about 1980 you´ll understand why :-)

This book kept me up for 2 days. My mistake in starting it at 9 pm. I didn't sleep the night. Just when I thought that the action was winding down, BAM , another twist is introduced. I loved it.

Battlefield Earth is a great story and the plot in it is real. And it is all about survival against any and all odds. I have read it 3 times. I knwo of a guy in England who got so inspired by the survival concept in the book so he went onto a hiking tour into Europe and Asia, bringing no money just to prove to himself that he could survive. He did and had a great adventure too. The book will remain on my shelf as I will read it again

This book was full of cliches, it was campy, shallow, etc etc etc - wrapped in cheap classic sci-fi garb (you know, the alien costumes with the zippers showing). SHOULD have been complete and utter CRAP! But, somehow, it wasn't. I couldn't put the damn thing down. Read it in one sitting and passed it on to friends - each who were equally engrossed. Never got my copy of the book back (so I guess that technically, it is not on my shelf!) Btw - in my opinion, if Hubbard actually believed in scientology as a religious or spiritual path, then he's a loon - but as a self-help book marketing strategy - way to be a capitalist! Go get 'em ;-D

The book was awesome. It is one of my all-time favorite books. The action is fierce and keeps going with the most hair-raising situations developing along the way. It combines a lot of different elements, i.e. action, suspense, intrigue, science fiction and comedy. It's a great read for anybody who loves a well-written story that you just can't put down.
