A Great Book That Will Keep You on The Edge of Your Seat

Into thin air is a great story by John Krakauer. John at the time in the book is writing for a climbing magazine and had always wanted to attempt mount Everest since he was little. The only problem was John Felt like he had been out of climbing for awhile and was getting to old. One day however he got the opportunity to join an expedition that was led by Ron Hall. Without any hesitation he accepted the offer and was appointed the writer for the expedition. When John arrived at base camp he quickly discoverd maybe he had made an awful choice. John and his expedition trained for a couple of weeks going up to a certain point on the mountain then back down to base camp. This was helping them get use to the extremely low oxygen level. Finally John and his expedition set off to conquer Mount Everest. It is a very Action packed book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I really enjoyed this book and thought that John Krakauer was insane to actually write a book about climbing Everest. Although at times him and his expedition wouldn't always get along I enjoyed reading about how crazy it was to be up at that altitude. I thought john seemed like a very nice humble character in an expedition with a bunch interesting people. Overall I would recommend this book to teenager to adults because it does get pretty graphic up there!

    powerful and absorbing read

a book i enjoyed and savoured. wonderfully descriptive and many sharp observations of human behaviour. i normally do not keep books after i've read them. this one i had to pass on to a good friend. so far i have read 3 of krakauer's books. i shall read his fourth as i do like his take of the world. wish him many more years as a writer.

    Haunting

What a great read. At times it was pretty technical but the author did a pretty great job of explaning different climbing terms. This book was so haunting and intense it is one that stays with you. When you aren't reading the book you are thinking about those involved and how the story will play out even if you know how it will end.
