  • Allie the Outcast: The protagonist of the story. A skinjacker who is intent upon destroying Miss Mary Hightower.
  • Mary Hightower: A very charismatic soul who commands a large cumulus of Afterlights. She is Mikey's sister. Was killed when she was hit by a train more than 100 years ago.
  • Mikey McGill: An afterlight(ghost) that has the ability to morph himself into anything he pleases, falls in love with allie the outcast.
  • Jix: Jix is a fur-jacker. He enjoys fur-jacking cats. He has started growing orange fur with black spots. He was assigned by the king of a vapor called "The City of Lost Souls" to capture Mary and bring her back.
  • Milos: Sixteen year old Russian boy who doesn't like to talk about his past. Mary Hightower's most loyal assistant. Is controlling her cumulus while she is away.
  • Nick (The Chocolate Ogre): Nick is one of the main characters. Nick and Mary are in love with each other. Nick is on a mission to save all the kids from being stuck in Everlost forever.
  • "Jackin'" Jill: A girl who was killed in a tornado. Has untidy hair and likes to kill souls and bring them back for the leader of a vapor.
  • Speedo: Another of Mary's very loyal followers. Was a Finder and now drives the ghost train to wherever it is Mary wishes to go. Died in a pool and is forever soaking wet.
  • Moose: A skinjacker that works for Milos. Moose died in a football accident, and talks with a slur because his mouthpeice was in his mouth when he died.
  • Squirrel: He is a squirrelly kind of skinjacker. He is Moose's best friend.
  • Clarence: A scarred old man missing an eye and an hand and is thought to be crazy, for he can see into Everlost with the missing eye and pick things in Everlost up with the missing hand, for both crossed over into the limbo world between life and death. He is the only scar wraith in the series.
  • King Yax K'uk Mo: The Unremembering King. Is self-proclaimed ruler of the Middle Realm. (Jix's King)
  • Avalon: Avalon is the leader of a group of Afterlights known as the Neon Nightmares. The group takes commands from a coin-taking jukebox that crossed into Everlost.
  • Johnnie-O: Johnnie-O used to be one of Nick's enemies, but developed a respect for Nick and Allie in the first book. He and Charlie get stuck in the Hindenburg in Everwild, and in the beginning of Everfound.
  • Choo-Choo Charlie: Used to own a train. Is now stuck on the Hindenburg with Johnnie-O, though has seemed to lost his mind and sings songs 24/7 and is ready to get where he's going.
  • Megan Mary McGill: Miss Mary, The Sky Witch, Mary Queen of Snots, Mary Hightower. All are names given to Megan Mary McGill or Mary Hightower as she's come to call herself formally. Mary is one of the most interesting characters in Everlost. Depending on which side you find yourself it's too difficult to decide, at first, if you should trust her. Though, in the end it's too easy to fall under her spell. Especially since she seems to think of herself as so morally upright. If she believes it to be so, you should, too, right?
  • Wurlitzer: It is a jukebox that the Neons worshipped. It often told the future through its music. Jix used it to figure out how to get ride of the Neon's leader.
  • Rotsie: A new skinjacker for Mary forever dressed in a ROTC uniform (hence the name)
  • Mrs. Vayevsky: Milos's Mother
  • Little Richard: Afterlight
  • Inez: Inez is a little girl that is killed by a jaugar. Jix watches over her throught her stage as an interlight and feels responsible for her death because he left the jaguar there.
