Judge Carey Moore refuses to have the past history of Karl Dharl told in court when he is on trial for the murder of a mother and her 2 foster children, everyone hates her especially Detective Sam Kovak. Karl escapes from prison and Carey is kidnapped. All is not what it seems, very good twists keeps you reading till the end.

Another good story from Hoag. This is the third book that I've read by her now and they've all been very enjoyable. This tale of police, judges, corruption, escaped prisoners and justice is very well put together and a great read.

After a few duds, Tami Hoag almost reaches the heights she achieved with her earlier work, such as Night Sins, Guilty as Sin and Ashes to Ashes. A taut and tense thriller. A worthwhile read.
